Before the experience, what did you think would happen?
I thought that it would be intimidating working with piano students and their parents, but also that it would be worth it because it would be a great way for me to share my love for piano.
what did you expect to gain from an educational standpoint?
I felt that I would get a lot of experience working with children which would help me in my future since I'm considering that for my career goals and my undergraduate degree.
What new knowledge did you hope to gain from this experience?
I really wanted to gain a deeper understanding of my instrument by teaching it to others, and also learn specific experience-based knowledge about how to lead an effective lesson and explain concepts at an age-appropriate level for my students.
what new relationaships did you gain from this experience?
I gained a very strong mentor relationship with my piano teacher because she helped me gain confidence in my lessons, and gave me advice when I came across a problem. I also developed positive relationships with my students as we worked together each week. The most challenging relationship to develop was my relationship with the parents of my students.
how did you think you would benefit from your involvement?
I thought I would get a lot of helpful experience in an area I am considering pursuing in college, and also gain confidence in my communication skills continued exposure and practice.
