1. when did you decide to teach piano full time?
Emiline: "Junior or senior year of high school when I was working as a student teacher under my mentor, Becky."
2. what is your favorite thing about your job?
Emiline: "I get the best of both worlds in that I have professional fulfillment from having my own business doing what I love, but I also have family life fulfillment because it allows me to work at home and set my own hours so it never interferes with me raising my son."
3. what is the most difficult thing about your job?
Emiline: "Making money. Figuring out taxes and setting my wages high enough to make a living while also being reasonable to my students is a difficult balance, and I also had to figure out advertising and building my brand all by myself."
4. what education prepared you for your job?
Emiline: "My year-long student teaching apprenticeship under another teacher, as well as my Bachelor's degree in Music Education, specializing in piano and vocal pedagogy."
5. what made you want to do this job?
Emiline: "A lot of it was the work-life balance appeal, but it was also that I knew even with my passion for music, I didn't want to go into a performing career. Once I started my apprenticeship I fell in love with teaching and knew I wanted to consider it more seriously for my future."
